McCowan Thomas opened McWood’s doors in 1977, initially operating out of a small shop in a former coffin factory on Niagara Street in downtown Toronto.
After 41 years on Niagara Street, encroaching development necessitated a move and we relocated to a larger space in Toronto. This provided an opportunity to upgrade our systems and equipment in a space that we tailored to our needs. We were also able to augment our metal fabrication and scenic art departments.
Coincident with the move, Greg Hefford assumed control of the firm in January 2019. He has been a key employee since 1991 and along with lead hand Mike Cuttini, looks forward to continuing to grow the business.
scope of work
Scenery for live theatre was our early focus, but the mandate expanded over the years to include television production work, trade show booths and displays as well as custom furniture and cabinet making and millwork for museums and art institutions.
We work directly with architects and designers to produce a variety of custom work in copper, bronze, aluminum and steel.
Our team can produce creative proposals including 3D renderings and shop drawings.
We crate, ship and install, both domestically and in the U.S.
